Authentic Thai massage in Auckland CBD, Parnell and Rotorua
Thai massage is a traditional treatment that works along the body's energy lines using rhythmic pressure and assisted stretching. No oil, no undressing, just deep, deliberate work that leaves you more mobile and less tense. At Massage Eden you can book authentic Thai massage seven days a week at Auckland CBD, Parnell and Rotorua, in 60, 90, 120 or 180 minute sessions. Whether you're easing a stiff back, loosening tight hips, or unwinding from a long week, your therapist tailors pressure and stretches to suit you.
A Thai massage at Massage Eden is the most active treatment we offer, and it feels unlike anything done on a table. You stay fully clothed on a wide futon mat at floor level, and your therapist works with no oil, using thumbs, palms, forearms and elbows to apply rhythmic pressure along the body's energy lines, the Sen lines of traditional Thai medicine. Woven through the pressure work is assisted stretching: your therapist guides your hips, back, shoulders and legs through positions you would struggle to reach on your own, lengthening tight muscle and opening stiff joints. The rhythm is slow and deliberate, less a rub and more a structured sequence that moves through the whole body. Clients book it for the deep stretch and the release it brings to chronically tight hips, backs and shoulders, and for the lift in mobility and energy that follows. You choose a session from sixty to one hundred and eighty minutes at Auckland CBD, Parnell or Rotorua, and your therapist tailors the pressure and stretches to your body on the day.
What you get for your hour.
-
Pressure and flow along the Sen lines
Your therapist works along the body's energy lines (Sen lines) using thumbs, palms, elbows and forearms. No oil is used. You stay fully clothed throughout: wear loose-fitting clothes, or we provide Thai massage pants and a top.
-
Assisted stretching, guided by your therapist
Your therapist guides your body through assisted stretches targeting your hips, back and shoulders. It can feel intense in tight areas, that's normal. Always let your therapist know if you'd like the pressure adjusted.
-
What it does for your body
Improved range of motion, better circulation, reduced stress and a noticeable lift in energy. Regular sessions can ease tension headaches and chronic tightness. Thai massage works on the whole system, not just the muscles.
-
No oil, no undressing
Thai massage is done fully clothed on a futon mat with no oil at any point, which makes it the natural choice if you prefer to keep your clothes on or dislike the feel of oil on your skin. Wear loose, stretchy clothing you can move in, or arrive as you are and we will provide traditional Thai massage pants and a top at every studio.
Shaped to what you arrive with.
People book Thai massage for reasons a table massage does not quite answer. The most common is tightness that comes from holding one position for hours: the locked hips and stiff lower back of desk work and long drives, where the assisted stretching opens what sitting has shortened. Others come in with chronic tension headaches that trace back to a tight neck and shoulders, and find that regular sessions ease the pattern at its source. Athletes and active people book it as a deeper, guided version of the stretching they never get around to doing themselves, lengthening hamstrings, hips and the spine while a therapist takes the work off their hands. And a good number simply prefer not to use oil or undress, and want serious therapeutic work without either. If you are after a more conventional oil-based treatment instead, our Body Massage adapts to whatever your body needs that day, and our Couples sessions let you book side by side.
What happens in a Thai massage session
Three things shape every Thai session at Massage Eden: pressure along the body's energy lines, assisted stretching guided by your therapist, and the comfort of staying fully clothed on a futon mat throughout.

Arrival. Arrive five to ten minutes early to fill out a short intake form covering any injuries, recent surgery, pregnancy, or areas to avoid, since the assisted stretching needs to work around them.
The room. Thai massage takes place on a firm futon mat at floor level rather than a treatment table. You stay fully clothed throughout, with no oil used at any point. Wear loose, stretchy clothing, or arrive as you are and we will provide traditional Thai massage pants and a top at every studio.
Communication. The pressure can feel intense across tight areas, which is normal, but it should never tip into pain. Tell your therapist to ease off, hold, or go deeper as you go, and they will adjust each stretch to your range.
First session. If it is your first Thai massage, start with a sixty or ninety minute session and mention it at booking so your therapist can introduce the stretches gradually.
Cancellation. We ask for 24 hours notice if you need to change or cancel your appointment.
Follow-up. For ongoing tightness or headaches, a session every one to two weeks builds the most benefit; for general mobility and maintenance, every three to four weeks works well.

What is authentic Thai massage?
Authentic Thai massage is a traditional treatment that works along the body's energy lines (known as Sen lines) using rhythmic thumb, palm and forearm pressure combined with assisted stretching. No oil is used and you stay fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing throughout the session. The technique has been practised for over 2,500 years and is rooted in traditional Thai medicine.
-
Is Thai massage painful?
Thai massage applies firm pressure, and some moments can feel slightly uncomfortable, particularly when working on tight areas. This is a normal part of the technique. There is a difference between productive therapeutic discomfort and pain. Always communicate with your therapist if anything feels too intense and they will adjust immediately.
-
What should I wear?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing you can stretch in: think yoga pants, soft trousers, a t-shirt or singlet. If you arrive from work or haven't had a chance to change, our clinics provide traditional Thai massage pants and a top for you to wear during the session.
-
How is Thai massage different from Swedish or deep tissue?
Swedish and deep tissue massage are table-based, use oil, and require you to undress to your comfort level. Thai massage takes place on a futon mat, uses no oil, keeps you fully clothed, and incorporates assisted stretching alongside pressure work. It tends to feel more dynamic and active than a traditional table massage.
