Pricing, what to wear, how often, and what to expect on your first visit.
How much does a massage cost at Massage Eden?
Body massage starts from $119 for 60 minutes and $169 for 90 minutes. Authentic Thai massage starts at the same $119 for 60 minutes. Couples massage (two therapists, one room) starts from $229 for 60 minutes. Our infrared sauna starts at $25. For the full price list across all treatments, see our /services page.
What should I wear to a massage?
For oil-based treatments like body massage and deep tissue, you undress to your comfort level (most people undress to underwear) and your therapist drapes you with a sheet at all times, only exposing the area being worked on. For Thai massage you stay fully clothed: wear loose, comfortable clothes you can stretch in, or we provide traditional Thai massage pants and a top at the clinic.
What is the difference between deep tissue and relaxation massage?
Relaxation massage uses lighter, rhythmic, flowing strokes across the whole body to calm the nervous system and ease general tension. Deep tissue uses slower, more focused pressure to target specific layers of tight muscle and chronic tension, particularly through the back, shoulders and hips. Both are available at all three Massage Eden locations (Auckland CBD, Parnell and Rotorua), and your therapist can blend the two within a single session if that suits you better.
How often should I get a massage?
It depends on your goal. For stress management and general maintenance, once a month is a solid baseline. If you carry chronic tension or you're recovering from training load, fortnightly works better. For acute issues (a flare-up of neck or lower back pain), weekly sessions for a short period can help you turn the corner before stepping down to maintenance.
Is massage safe if I have a health condition?
In most cases yes, but always tell your therapist at intake. Conditions like pregnancy, recent surgery, skin conditions, blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled high blood pressure and certain cancers either require modification or are contraindicated. When you're unsure, check with your GP first. Our therapists are trained to adjust pressure, positioning and technique to keep your session safe and effective.
Do you offer couples massage?
Yes. Couples massage means two therapists working on two people in the same room at the same time. It's available at our Auckland CBD and Parnell clinics, starting from $229 for 60 minutes. It works for partners, friends or family members who want to share the experience: book online and choose the couples option, or call us if you'd like help coordinating times.
Where are your massage clinics located?
We have three clinics: Auckland CBD (Suite 415, Level 4, 34 Shortland Street), Auckland Parnell, and Rotorua. All three are open seven days a week. You can book online via our booking page, or call +64 9 3020 272 to check therapist availability at your preferred location.
Can I buy a massage as a gift?
Yes. Gift vouchers are available online via our Gift Vouchers page and are redeemable at any of our three locations: Auckland CBD, Parnell or Rotorua. Vouchers can be purchased by dollar value or for a specific treatment, and the recipient books in whenever suits them.
What happens during my first massage appointment?
Your therapist starts with a brief intake: where you'd like the focus, any health concerns, and your preferred pressure. You're then shown to a private treatment room and given time to undress to your comfort level (or stay fully clothed for Thai massage). The therapist knocks before re-entering. Your session runs for the length you booked, and there's time afterwards to get dressed, have water and ask any questions before you leave.
Is massage covered by ACC or health insurance?
ACC does not generally cover wellness or relaxation massage. Some private health insurance policies (including Southern Cross, nib and others) include massage therapy as part of their extras cover: check your specific policy for details. Our therapists can provide a receipt after your session so you can submit a claim if your policy covers it.
